I TRULY BELIEVE THAT LAST NIGHT WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST MUSICAL MOMENTS I HAVE EVER WITNESSED..... THE VIBE WAS STRONG...SO MUCH FAM IN THE HOUSE...2 MANY NAMES TO NAME... YOU JUST HAD TO BE THERE.... I CAUGHT THIS POST FROM THE HOMIE///PROH MIC/// AND I THINK HE GAVE A DOPE BREAKDOWN OF THE NITE....THIS WAS HISTORY....REAL TALK....
THANK GOD I WAS THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This shit was incredibly FILTHY. If you missed last nights performance of the "Suite For Ma Dukes" Orchestra you truly missed something special. Me being a producer, I can't even explain what I was feeling watching this orchestra do MUCH justice to Jay Dee's catalogue. These cats were playing shit off his beat tapes, Welcome to Detroit, Donuts, and various cuts he did with other artists as well as songs he sample from artists like Herbie Hancock, Amad Jamal and Gap Mangione. And the special guests (Bilal, Posdenous, Talib, Common, Amp Fidler, Dwele) sealed the deal. Extra super big-ups to Miguel Atwood Ferguson for arranging and conducting the music in a way that showed just how great Jay Dee was. He gave the beats bridges and preludes and what not giving them an even more musical feel. You can tell Miguel really felt the music spiritually.
Here's the set the orchestra played:
-Anitiquity
-Nag Champa
-Find A Way
-Fall In Love
-Welcome To Detroit Intro (WOW! I couldnt believe they came with this)
-Donuts Intro- Alternate version (this shit was too nasty)
-Dont Nobody Care About Us (with NO drums. I think this was Miguels favorite track)
-Jealousy (I believe they played the O.G sample then the S.V. version)
-? (I couldnt figure out what Dilla beat was being played here)
-The Official (first they played the O.G. version. Then the Jaylib one)
-Untitled (No words could explain this. These cats was even doin the drops. "You know you ca-can't stop...ca-can't quit", RIDICULOUS! They even played the "Fantastic!" interlude that comes right after this song)
THEN the features started coming out:
-Runnin' (Diana Moreira sang the lyrics to the original sampled song while Bilal, Amp Fidler, Shafiq Husayn did background vocals.
-Dont Nobody Care About Us (WITH Karriem Riggins on the drums. WHEW!)
-A.N.G.E.L (Dwele came out and sang the lyrics.)
-Reminice (They played the original sample then Bilal came out and killed the song it as usual).
Then they finished the night off with:
-Stakes Is High (They played the Amad Jamal version 1st then then the original De La version and Posdenous and Talib came out and performed it. Then they brought all the guests back out and started chanting "VIBE!"....."VIBRATION!"
This shit was like church LOL. I think I even forgot to list a couple more beats but you get the gist of it.
This type of shit only happens in LA.
WHERE WAS U?
